Emily Rause
“She's a good person, Tilly! She's doing her best. Ems just doesn't know what she wants. Aren't you the same way?”
—Lynn Powell
—Lynn Powell
An easy-going girl that's popular with her schoolmates thanks to her so-called "prince-like personality". Emily doesn't really understand the reason why she has an unofficial fanclub, but she's largely unbothered by it and continues to help out where she can, though she never tries to do too much the way Alice does. Despite being relatively fond of company and socialable, Emily's a reserved person.
Appearance
A stocky girl of average height with skin tanned by her love of being outside, Emily has naturally reddish-brown hair kept short and bright blue eyes. Due to her cool, boyish looks, she's very popular with girls. She has a beauty mark just beneath her right eye, which Sophie and Charlotte both consider her charm point, and silver earcuffs on both ears. In general, she likes to wear and collect a lot of jewelry, from rings to bracelets to necklaces.Emily is a little more standard when it comes to wearing the school's uniform, following nearly all the rules the way Charlotte does—aside from the school's rules about execessive jewelry. She also wears a light undershirt beneath her summer uniform and keeps her first two buttons undone. In the winter, she wears black tights, matching with Sophie. Her school bag is a red duffel that tends to have a lot of paint stains on it from Art Club.
Outside of school, she dresses more tomboyishly similar to Lynn, though that's due to the fact that all of her clothes are hand-me-downs from her older brothers—she prefers them since she doesn't like getting nice clothes dirty. Like her school bag, they usually have paint stains on them. Distressed jeans and sneakers are her go-to staples, and like at school, she wears a whole range of jewelry. Her favorite piece of jewelry is a rose pendant necklace, inlaid with teardrop-shaped rose quartz; it was a gift from her eldest brother when she came out to her family. She wears skirts for special occasions, since she feels like dressing up should be reserved for more important events.
Personality
Socialable and easy-going, Emily is a girl that gets along with a lot of people without getting particularly close to them; her closest friends are those in The Blossom Society, and even out of them, only Lynn knows anything about what goes on inside her mind. What she doesn't say with her words she instead says with her hands, bringing out in her paintings what she can't express normally. Seemingly slow-to-anger, she has a lot of inner turmoil and anxiety regarding her relationships with others, which in turn worsens her case of flower sickness more than others in the club. While she and Alice share the trait of being private people, Emily still talks about her family and her personal life, feelings aside. She loves sitting by the window and watching the rain, though she has a tendency to nod off while doing so.History
Assigned male at birth, Emily realized near the start of middle school that she wasn't like other kids her age; after reading about others' experiences on the internet, she came out to her family. Fortunately, they were for the most part supportive—her parents had some kneejerk reservations and thought she might just grow out of it, but her older brothers were more than happy to have a little sister to dote on and play protector to. As she's grown up, however, her parents have become more relaxed on their judgments and do their best to support her, though things are still a little strained.Flower Motifs & Meanings

Relationships
- Family More or less fine nowadays; she's much closer with her brothers than her parents, but she's grateful they weren't worse in their reactions. None of her extended family has found out yet.
- Sophie Rickett A girl who's in love with Emily, and Emily is very aware of this fact. She likes Sophie too, but she's afraid to return her feelings; she thinks they're doing just fine as friends and that their relationship doesn't need to deepen any futher.
- Alice Windsor They have a special bond due to their shared desire for privacy, though Emily thinks Alice goes a little far with it. Still, she enjoys their frequent, if superficial, conversations.
- Lynn Powell A fellow Art Club member in the society, and someone who can read Emily's feelings in her artwork. It makes her uncomfortable, but Emily's learned that Lynn will leave matters alone if you make it clear you're not ready to talk about them yet. She knows about Emily's distress over Sophie.
- Matilda Maddock Seeing as Matilda is Sophie's best friend, her and Emily don't exactly see eye-to-eye about "the feelings situation," as Matilda aptly puts it. Matilda wishes she'd either reciprocate the feelings or turn Sophie down, for both their sakes, and Emily wishes she'd understand it's a lot more complicated than that. They're civil as long as conversation doesn't turn towards love though.
- Charlotte Barnsburry A girl Emily's very aware knows her chiefly through Sophie's rose-tinted glasses. She isn't sure how to interact with Charlotte, but the other girl isn't very forward about talking one-on-one with her either, so Emily doesn't push it any.
Trivia
- Emily is transgender, having coming out in middle school; her family has been largely supportive of her, particularly her older brothers. She's kept this underwraps from The Blossom Society, however, because she's afraid it'll change their perception of her being a girl like them.
- She takes care of a group of stray cats that live behind the school. They're all named after famous painters.
- Her latest obsession is a mobile game about artists; she has a keychain of her favorite, Alfons Maria Mucha.
